Wide River Counseling
MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING & EDUCATION CENTER
Our commitment is to provide best practice and research informed counseling services and to increase awareness about the mental health issues that affect men, children and families.
Wide River Counseling (WRC) specializes in helping men although we meet with all people regardless of gender or gender identity. We provide a space that is confidential and therapy that is solution focused. We help people with anxiety, depression, PTSD, unemployment, drug abuse/dependence, sexual issues, and parenting problems.
Wide River Counseling specializes in the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder- which is the most diagnosed disorder among children especially boys. Our approach is comprehensive as we develop a plan of care for your child that includes coordinating with educators, occupational/physical therapists, psychologists, and physicians. Other issues commonly experienced by children and adolescents addressed at WRC include: conduct disorder, anxiety, and sexual identity.
Wide River Counseling acknowledges the importance of families in our lives. We also acknowledge that not all families are the same. We honor and respect all types of families:
- a single person and children
- same sex couples and children
- grandparents and children
- couples with no children
- single person and their roommates/friend
- poly or open relationships
We provide family therapy to help families become more connected and safe. We also find that in individual therapy outcomes can improve if important family members are a part of the plan of care.
Wide River Counseling’s goal is to provide education and training about mental health issues. In that spirit we are hosting trainings and workshops to educators and local providers. We also seek to increase a greater collaboration with other providers and educators.
Dubuque's only counseling practice specializing in men's issues
Derrick Rogers Clark
Derrick has over 13 years experience working in the mental health field. He received his training in psychiatric and child residential settings. He has experience working with people who have anxiety, depression, PTSD, unemployment, drug abuse/dependence, a variety of sexual issues (affairs, sexual identity, erectile/sexual dysfunction), and parenting problems. Although his initial training was with adults with mental illness and children in residential facilities, he enjoys working with all people of all ages, backgrounds, ethnicity, sexual orientations, walks, faiths, and no faiths.
His approach is collaborative- he believes that people are the true experts in their lives. We have unseen strengths and resources working within us to help us overcome obstacles and to help us cross those wide rivers we so often face in life.
